Oxygen in the Community Setting

Oxygen therapy in the Community setting is certainly common practice to support patients with long term conditions such as COPD, Interstitial Lung Disease or end stage Congestive Cardiac Failure complicated by hypoxia. There is a need to promote it’s awareness among healthcare staff who manage patients on oxygen therapy in community settings. With the emergence of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the demand for oxygen across the world has accelerated. It is essential to understand that Oxygen is a drug and should be prescribed and administered safely and appropriately.  This programme provides an overview to help increase awareness of the role and responsibility of the healthcare professional in the important principles of oxygen management. It outlines the recommendations of the British Thoracic Society Guidelines for Home Oxygen Use in Adults (2015) in providing safe and effective care for patients receiving oxygen therapy in community settings.
