Infant Mental Health Awareness Week 12-18 June 2023

The experiences that infants have from in-utero and in the early years of life have an important impact on their neural, social and emotional development. Experiencing traumatic events can therefore have serious and lasting effects into later childhood and adulthood.

CEC’s education programme: UNOCINI 1 – How to make an effective assessment and referral to Social Services, assists Registered Nurses, Midwives & Allied Health Professionals to initiate the support process through making a referral when significant concerns are identified. This process then can focus on building upon family strength factors and the identification of risks and unmet needs. This aims not only to ultimately promote children’s safety and wellbeing but also to develop secure nurturing relationships between parents/carers and their children, thus reducing the effects of trauma to give infants and children the best start in life.
