Motivational Interviewing: An overview of principles and techniques

The Future Nurse: Standards of proficiency for registered nurses (2018) highlighted effective communication as being central to the provision of safe and compassionate person-centred care.  These standards, implemented in 2020, go on to identify Motivational interviewing techniques , among others, as being an evidence based, best practice communication skill and approach for providing therapeutic interventions.

This short introductory programme will be relevant to a range of health care professionals working in a variety of care settings and aims to introduce participants to the concept of Motivational Interviewing, integrating the principles and techniques which will enable health behaviour change through brief interventions.
