Tracheostomy Care of the Adult Patient

5000 Tracheostomies were performed in the United Kingdom (2020).  It is estimated that during this COVID-19 pandemic these figures have increased by four-fold.  Mortality increases from 20-60% with a tracheostomy and 30% of patients experience an untoward incident.  The National Tracheostomy Safety Project (2020) has highlighted the need for further education and training for staff in airway management, thereby reducing patient safety incidents.  This programme aims to develop the required knowledge and skills to safely care for adults with a tracheostomy.
