30th World Congress of the International Association for Suicide Prevention

8th October 2019

The HSC Clinical Education Centre (CEC) was delighted to be able to support a number of staff to attend the recent World Congress of Suicide Prevention that was held in Derry-Londonderry from 17-21 September 2019. The world congress is an opportunity for academics, policy makers, clinicians and those with a lived experience to come together from across the globe every year to share best practice, evidence and research in suicide prevention. The theme for this year’s conference was ‘Breaking down walls, building bridges’ as a call to continue to reduce stigma and increase service provision and response available for those in most of need of support. In total approximately 850 delegates from over 57 countries gathered in the historic and welcoming city of Derry-Londonderry.   CEC were also privileged to have a poster accepted for presentation entitled ‘Building bridges in Perinatal Mental Health through education’. This was a unique opportunity for CEC staff to display the work being undertaken by staff to reduce stigma and increase awareness of suicide in the perinatal period through the delivery of the one and two day Perinatal Mental Health Programmes available to HSC staff across Northern Ireland.
