This full study day will provide a general overview of Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, the participants will have considered:

  • The strategic direction
  • Introduction to and definitions of ASD
  • The historical perspective
  • The Spectrum viewpoint
  • Causes, prevalence, diagnosis and statistics
  • The dyad (triad) of impairments
  • Communication, language and social interaction issues
  • The A.Q.
  • The perspective of parents/ carers
  • The impact of diagnosis
  • Some treatment and management approaches


All carers from any setting who are helping support individuals who are or maybe on the Autistic Spectrum.


Teacher facilitation, supported by group work and discussion
