Enhanced Programme for Registered Nurses (Children's) Part A



To further develop knowledge and enhance skills of the Registered Nurse in caring for sick children

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the programme, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the relevance of monitoring and reporting vital signs/PEWS recognising, and acting appropriately
  • Practice safe suctioning and administration of oxygen
  • Effectively care for a child who requires Airvo to support breathing
  • Confidently recognise, and manage a child who is sick or deteriorating
  • Outline the principles of fluid management of the child
  • Discuss safe administration of medicines to children and undertake drug calculations efficiently
  • Outline recognition and management of anaphylaxis
  • Discuss approaches to pain assessment & management of the child, including use of Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA/NCA)
  • Undertake safe record keeping with consideration of PACE assessment documentation
