Drainage Systems

 

Purpose

To facilitate participants in developing the knowledge required to safely and effectively care for patients with  Pleurx Catheters, Breast Drainage Systems and Nephrostomy tubes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Review the anatomy and function of the kidney, breast tissue and respiratory system
  • Discuss the indications for insertion of Pleurx catheter, breast drain and nephrostomy tube.
  • Discuss the care and management of patients with Pleurx catheter, breast drain and nephrostomy tube
  • Discuss how to resolve problems associated with Pleurx catheter, breast drain and nephrostomy tube.

Audience

Registered nurses who are involved with the care of patients with Pleurx catheters, breast drains and nephrostomy tubes.

 

Suitable for community nurses.
