Purpose

To build on your skills, knowledge and experience to develop confidence and competence in verifying death in a child, when death is expected

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Explain difference in verification and certification
  • Identify when it is not appropriate to verify the death of a child and appropriate management if this happens
  • Discuss legal, ethical and professional  issues underpinning the extended role of a registered nurse undertaking verification of death in a child that has been expected
  • Outline verification procedure (organisational policy) including effective & accurate documentation, & communication with family, teams and other agencies
