Moving and Handling – Initial Training for New Band 5 Nurses
To provide newly qualified staff with the foundation principles relating to safe moving and handling of patients and inanimate loads
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Identify the relevant Health and Safety legislation pertaining to Moving and Handling of people and inanimate objects
- Describe the principles underpinning safe moving and handling of people and objects
- Participate in the safe use of a range of equipment and accessories used in moving and handling of people
- Demonstrate knowledge to carry out a Generic and Individual Risk Assessment
Newly qualified Band 5 Staff Nurses working in the Acute Sector of Altnagelvin Hospital who have recently attended or due to attend a Band 5 Induction Programme
Lecture, discussion, group-work, demonstration and participation in practical techniques used in moving and handling of people and objects
Prior to attending the Moving and Handling Course, participants must complete, either by e-learning or in writing, the “Manual Handling Awareness Programme” Booklet. This can be accessed at www.hsclearning.com
