Clinical Skills Foundation Programme Senior Nursing Assistant Band 3

 

Purpose

To develop the relevant knowledge and skills of Band 3 Senior Nursing Assistants to enable them to support the delivery of nursing care to adults in the Acute and Rehabilitation setting in NHSCT.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme the participant will have developed the specific technical skills and the knowledge of relevant Northern Trust policy and procedures in relation to the following clinical skills:

  • Venepuncture
  • Stoma Care
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring
  • Male and Female Catheter Care
  • Clinical observations. Vital signs. NEWS.
  • ECG Recording

Audience

Band 3 Senior Nursing Assistants who are part of the pilot project in B1 and B2 Antrim Area Hospital and the Rehabilitation Ward at Causeway Hospital

Method

Lecture, demonstration, simulation, discussion

Competency Element

Following this theoretical component the participant must engage with an appropriate skilled practitioner in his/her clinical area, to further develop a greater knowledge and understanding of this person-centred care activity. This will involve supervised practice which should be completed within __ weeks to consolidate learning and application to practice. It is the responsibility of the individual participant to complete this activity and to confirm completion with his/her line manager. For the purpose of this pilot programme the Northern Trust have identified Registrant Assessors to undertake this role.
