Sepsis in the Community

 

Purpose

 

To provide registered nurses with the knowledge and skills to recognise and manage the care of a person with sepsis.

Learning Outcomes

 

By the end of this session the registered nurse will be able to:

  • Define the term ‘sepsis’
  • Identify the risk factors for sepsis
  • Assess a person with suspected sepsis and stratify the risk of severe illness/death using criteria based on age.
  • Explain the management of a person with suspected sepsis in the community
  • Discuss the importance of family-oriented care and communication with carers
