Motivational Interviewing and Awareness of (1/2 Day)



To provide public health nursing staff with an overview of the concepts, theory and practice of motivational interviewing

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the background concepts and theories of motivational interviewing in light of current strategic drivers, public health and health promotion targets.
  • Discuss empirical evidence available regarding efficacy and effectiveness of motivational interviewing in relation to individual positive health behaviour change.
  • Identify and explore the skills of motivational interviewing including aspects of exploring readiness and confidence to make positive health changes and relate to clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate skills of motivational interviewing within the classroom setting
