Purpose

To provide health professionals with an overview of alcohol misuse within the context of maternity and child health.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Explore the social, financial, psychological and physical impact of alcohol misuse in relation to pregnancy
  • Assess units of alcohol
  • Describe the impact of alcohol misuse on the development of the fetus/baby
  • Discuss the challenges of addressing alcohol misuse with women during pregnancy
  • Provide support to women in relation to adopting healthy children.
