Verification of Death

 

Purpose

This programme is designed to provide registered nurses with the knowledge and skills required to take on the extended role of verifying death.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, each participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the legal, ethical and professional issues underpinning the extended role of the registered nurse in undertaking verification of death
  • Outline the procedures for verification of life extinct
  • Demonstrate competence, via simulated practice, in assessing for the absence of clinical signs of life
  • Discuss the importance of adherence to Trust policy, accurate documentation and communication with other agencies/personnel or family
