Neurological Observations in Adult Patients - Monitoring & Recording

 

Purpose

To provide an update on how to monitor and record neurological observations competently in adult patients with a confirmed or suspected head injury.

Learning Outcomes

After attending this study session you will be able to:

  • Competently monitor and record neurological observations through assessment of a patient's level of consciousness by evaluating behavioural responses.
  • Perform a standardised neurological assessment using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), pupil reaction, limb responses and vital signs adhering to NICE Guideline Head Injury (2007 CG56).
  • Interpret GCS data and escalate concerns effectively.
