Nasogastric Tube Insertion, Feeding & Medicine Administration
To increase knowledge and understanding of principles involved in passing a nasogastric tube and ongoing nursing care in relation to administration of feeds and medication.
At the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract
- Outline the indications for nasogastric tube insertion
- Discuss and demonstrate best practice in relation to insertion of nasogastric tube and methods of confirming correct tube placement
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of administration of enteral feed and medications
