Communication and Swallowing Management in Tracheostomised Adults

 

Purpose

Provide an update of current Speech and Language Therapy management of adult tracheostomised patients and develop a support link to aid in the management of tracheostomy

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop knowledge of the assessment and management of communication difficulties in tracheostomised patients

  • Develop knowledge of the assessment and management of swallowing difficulties in tracheostomised patients

  • Develop knowledge of weaning from tracheostomy

  • Develop knowledge to aid in clinical decision making in the use of tracheostomy speaking valves in communication/swallowing management, and in weaning

  • Develop trouble shooting skills to aid in the management of tracheostomy
