Dual Diagnosis

 

Purpose

To increase awareness of the concept of those people with Dual Diagnosis and to examine the impact on clinical practice

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the 2 day programme participants will:

  • Enhance their understanding of Dual Diagnosis and the potential reasons why people with Dual Diagnosis misuse substances.
  • Explore the interactions of substance use and mental health
  • Develop skills to improve detection, assessment and treatment
  • Gain skills in the appropriate screening tools to enhance assessment
  • Explore theories of change/motivational interviewing
  • Explore a recovery/wellness approach
  • Develop an understanding of the stages of treatment interventions including harm reduction
  • Explore carers and users views in relation to interventions
  • Reflect on how Dual Diagnosis is managed in clinical areas

Audience

All nurses on the register and all allied health professionals

Method

Teacher facilitation, discussion, service user experience, group work, case scenarios and feedback
